Out last major event of 2012 – A Campout at
Brazos Bend State Park involving Pack 50 and Troop 50
Despite our late start and it being a lot of our scouts first time camping we were still
able to pitch 8 tents in the dark. Like the scout’s moto “be prepared” we practice weeks
before the campout. Plus our older more experience scouts really showed their leadership by stepping up
to help the younger scouts.
For you see a true scout always shows his true grit by stepping up to help others as well as the pack or troop.
The next morning the scouts were expected to cook their own breakfast. The old boy scouts cooked for their
younger brothers in scouting…the cub scouts. They roasted turkey and pork sausages. Toasted gourmet bread with a side of piping hot
oatmeal of varies flavor. To waste it all down, the scouts made hot chocolate and server orange juice.
Lunch consisted of a traditional scouting cook method straight out of the scouting handbook (page 340)…Cooking
in Aluminum Foil. The scouts made some saveur moist burgers you ever want to taste.
The scouts also partook in a group nature walk where they came up close with some of the park’s most
fierce resident.
In the end the scouts were able to not just readable about outdoor ethics , but actually put a plan in action to
“
LEAVE NO TRACE”.
